DNS-Analysis - Analysis of the DNS root and gTLD nameserver system

This page describes CAIDA and related activities in Macroscopic DNS Measurements project in 2001-2002. We conducted passive and active measurements of the DNS root servers behavior, connectivity and performance. We also analyzed data collected at the servers themselves. The results of this project led us to the DNS-OARC: Operations, Analysis, and Research Center project.

Analysis of the DNS root and gTLD nameserver system

This page describes CAIDA activities in Macroscopic DNS Measurements project started in 2001. We conduct both passive and active measurements in order to study the DNS root servers behavior, their connectivity and performance. We also analyze data collected at the servers themselves.

Nameserver DoS Attack October 2002

In January 2002 CAIDA began monitoring performance of the DNS root and gTLD nameservers from two NeTraMet monitors based in San Diego and San Jose. After the October 2003 denial of service attack on the root nameservers, CAIDA looked at its DNS performance data to seek better understanding.
