Passive monitoring of Internet links can efficiently provide valuable
data on a wide variety of network performance measures. We use two
publicly available monitoring tools (CoralReef and NeTraMet), exploring
their synergy and relevance for collecting and analyzing Internet flow
data. We consider measurement design issues, then present two case
studies that use these tools to analyze an Internet connection at a
large university. We illustrate and discuss the potential for
investigating operational and research questions using our passive
measurement methodology.
