we (as a community) have quite low integrity 
in drawing macroscopic inferences

implication: the community (we) could make much better use 
of our collective intellectual resources if we could     
validate ideas against a larger variety of empirical data sets
before investing research and development time and energy on
ideas that attempt to affect the infrastructure.
