The rapid evolution in networking technologies continually
raises new legal and ethical questions. CAIDA seeks to
clarify our role, goals, and specific data collection
activities by agreeing upon Acceptable Use Policies (AUPs)
with organizations that host our data collection infrastructure.
While specific details may vary by host organization and
site, our general purpose AUPs are linked from this page.
For more information, contact data-info@caida.org.
CAIDA uses the following Acceptable Use Policies to govern its data collection activities:
- Archipelago Measurement Infrastructure: Archipelago (Ark) Site Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)
- Passive Internet Trace Collection Acceptable Use Agreement
- COMMONS Project: COMMONS Site Acceptable Use Agreement
On June 30, 2006, National Science Foundation funding for the National Laboratory for Advanced Network Research (NLANR) project expired and NLANR officially ended. In July 2006, CAIDA assumed operational stewardship for the NLANR machines and data. CAIDA used the following AUPs in incorporating former NLANR infrastructure into CAIDA's ongoing data collection activities:
- Former PMA passive trace collection sites: NLANR PMA Site Acceptable Use Agreement
- Former AMP active measurement sites: Archipelago Node Usage
