Margaret Murray has been CAIDA's Director since April of 2002. Prior to that,
she served as technical manager actively working on
CAIDA's bandwidth estimation,
Network Modeling and Simulation (NMS), and
Internet Atlas projects.
She also maintains CAIDA's Internet Tools
Taxonomy and Internet
Measurement Infrastructure surveys.
Previously, she worked in the UCSD School of Medicine's Virtual Reality
Lab, where she designed and implemented a flexible multi-media
virtual reality (MMVR) system, a 3D environment for simultaneously
exploring 3D models, 2D images, text, sounds,
and animations. Margaret has many years of
computer-related experience in system configuration and software
development, including extensive work managing and coordinating
heterogeneous systems in a variety of local and wide-area networks.
She has also designed and implemented several relational database
applications, and has designed and and taught both networking and
field service troubleshooting courses. Margaret received her
Ph.D. from the University of
California, San Diego in 2001. Her dissertation research into virtual reality
devices and acoustic
and digital pianos focused on how to design more expressive real-time computer
interfaces. Research considered how best to achieve ensemble in
musical cyberspace and was conducted through
Music's "Critical Studies and Experimental
Practices" department.
