Announcement

The 2nd Workshop on Active Internet Measurements supporting science and policy (AIMS-2) brings together participants from a wide range of areas including researchers, operators, and policymakers. The attendees will collaborate on cross-functional analysis of goals, means, and emerging issues in active Internet measurement projects.

The main objectives of the AIMS Workshops are to understand the potential and limitations of active measurements in the wide-area Internet, to identify relevant stakeholders and beneficiaries, to promote cooperative solutions, and to build a coordinated strategy addressing future data needs for the network and security research communities.

Program

The workshop includes 2.5 days of presentations, breakout sessions, and discussions. The second half of Day 3 is intended for drafting a report.

A tentative list of agenda items includes:

  • reviewing priorities/objectives/plans of various active measurement infrastructures, especially aimed at macroscopic security, stability, and performance measurements
  • coordination among measurement infrastructures
  • approaches to sharing data from measurement infrastructures
  • geolocation bakeoff -- designing an experiment to compare geolocation tools/services
If you're interested in testing particular aspects of these services please email us at geocompare-info@caida.org and we will send you a survey.

Mailing List

Please join the AIMS-2 2010 workshop mailing list for updates, announcements, discussion of the workshop, etc.

Local Arrangements / Getting to SDSC

For this workshop, attendees are expected to make their own hotel reservations and transportation arrangements from their hotels to the workshop. For CAIDA's list of recommended local hotels including shuttle availability, see the AIMS-2 2010 Hotels list (PDF). Contact the hotel directly for hotel shuttle schedules (if available) to the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC).

The most convenient parking is in the Hopkins parking structure at Hopkins and Voight, just south of SDSC. Park on the lower level, exiting to the sidewalk along Hopkins Drive, walk north to the new SDSC building (on your left). Before you go up all the concrete stairs, the rooms for the conference will be on the left, labeled Auditorium or B210E/B211E Meeting Room. Be aware that there are now three wings of SDSC. This workshop is being held in the new east wing that faces Hopkins Drive. For questions and help, contact Darlene Piche at (858) 534-5109.

UCSD Maps and general UCSD Visitor Parking information is additionally available. General driving directions to SDSC are located on the CAIDA Contact and Visitor Info page (note these directions refer you to the CAIDA offices in the SDSC building, not the SDSC East wing where the workshop will be held. They are adjacent and connected. To find the East Wing Auditorium from the main SDSC building, go straight through the lobby into the East Wing, and head outside and down the stairs - the Auditorium will be on your right, also labeled as B210E/B211E Meeting Room).

Sponsors

Funding for this event is provided by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology (S&T) Directorate, the National Science Foundation (NSF), CAIDA sponsors, and by the San Diego Supercomputer Center.
